I follow Greta at Friend Family Savings Blog. She has been working on Couponing 2 Give. The idea is that each week, you pick up 2 extra non-perishable items, collect the items, then donate to a local shelter. I just started with this challenge, so I only have 4 items, but it is a start. If you would like to take part in this as well, this is her plan.
1. Buy TWO extra items per week (non-perishables, toiletries, baby products etc)
2. Place your items in a donation box or bag in your home
3. Every few months, take your box of donations to your local homeless shelter, food bank, church etc
4. At the end of the year, you will have donated 104 items!
If 10 people commit to this challenge, that is 1,040 items we will donate by the end of the year. If 100 people commit, that makes it 10,400 items! Each of us can make a huge impact with just two donations per week!
Each week I will give you some donation item ideas based on weekly ad sales and coupon match-ups. All you need to do is gather your coupons and head to the store! This is also a great thing to get your kids involved in. Have them decorate your donation box, go with you to drop off your donations or maybe even contribute their pennies to help!
I think this is a great idea. I am hoping more people will follow along and do the same.
