The Lorax was stolen

I thought this was an interesting article.   Thieves stole the statue of the Lorax from the estate of Dr. Suess. I guess with the movie being so popular somebody thought this was a good idea.

I would love to see whoever took the statue do some good.   Maybe take the statue around to different parts of the country and plant trees.  Then after a year return it with a scrapbook of its adventures, like the kidnapped garden gnomes.

I doubt that will happen since the statue is like 300 pounds. But, I think Dr. Suess would approve of something like that.

DIY- Custom Monster High onesie

My older daughter and I are completely obsessed with the Monster High dolls.  I posted last week about our frustration in finding the new dolls.   My oldest decided that her little sister needed to get into Monster High at the rip old age of 2 weeks old.

We decided that we would decorate a onesie in MH style.

I purchased just a basic white onesie.  I really wanted a black one, but no such luck finding one.

I traced the MH logo onto tracing paper.  Then cut the shape out and drew it onto white felt.  After that, I drew the bow on pink felt.  I stitched those together.

Then I added the eyes and nose, both cut from black felt.   stitched those to the skull design and stitched onto the onesie.

I added ribbon trim around the sleeves. It looks super cute with a mini black and pink tutu.
The total for this project was about $4.

I would like to create her some other onesies for summer, so she can be mini fangirl .

S'more Sandwiches

A few weeks ago, I was watching the Hungry Girl on the Food Network.   In the episode she was making different frozen dessert treats.   There was one recipe that I knew my children would go wild for, it was the S'more Sandwiches.

These little treats are super simple for kids to make and they will love them!   Sorry for the lack of pictures, but they didn't last long!

Here is the recipe:

  • 1 sheet (4 crackers) low-fat honey graham crackers
  • 1/4 cup fat-free whipped topping, thawed from frozen
  • 1 teaspoon mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 8 miniature marshmallows

Break graham cracker sheet into two squares. Set aside.
In a small bowl, lightly stir together whipped topping, chocolate chips, and marshmallows. Don't over-stir.
Place one graham cracker square on a plate, and top with whipped-topping mixture. Lightly place the other square on top.
Freeze until solid, about 1 hour. Store in the freezer until ready to serve. Enjoy!

Am I the only person in America that could care less about The Hunger Games?

Am I the only person in America that could care less about The Hunger Games opening this weekend?   I have friends who have read the books.  They have all lost their minds about the movie opening.  I know a few went to the midnight showing.  I have had several people rave endlessly about how I needed to read the books, but I just don't care for the premise of the story.   I am not really interested in a post-apocalyptic setting where teenagers are chosen by lottery to battle it out to the death. You know things are not going to end well.   It just doesn't come off as a feel good type story.

I know there is a lot of fangirl and fanboy buzz.  It's sold more advance tickets then one of the Twilight movies, said one article.  It will be the next Harry Potter or Star Wars, said another.    I am skeptical about that bold statement.  Harry Potter and Star Wars are their own animals.  Comparisons like that shouldn't be made until the movie makes some money.

As far as Twilight goes, maybe The Hunger Games will be as big.  Who is to say.  I am probably one of the only women in the country who hasn't read Twilight or really seen the movies.  There are rules to vampire stories, and rule number one: They don't sparkle!  I just never could get past that one.

Sonic has Justice League Tots in kid's meals :fangirl squeal:

My inner fangirl squealed just a little bit when I saw these.  Sonic has these adorable tater tots dressed up as Justice League characters.   We normally bypass fast food, but I might have to make an acception for the Wonder Woman and Aquaman tots.

America's 25 Most Hated Foods

Having  2 selective eaters in the house, I am really not surprised by some of the food items that made the list.
Mayo, tuna fish, brussel sprouts all made the list.  For me, I love all of the vegetables listed but I draw the line when it comes to seafood and organ meat.  Check out the link to see all of the foods listed.  How many of them make your YUCK! list.

Monster High Dolls

Does anyone else have kids crazy about Monster High dolls?  I bought my oldest daughter 2 MH dolls for Christmas the year they came out.  Secretly, I bought them because I just thought they were so cool.  I really wanted them for myself.

If you aren't familiar with them, the "ghouls" are the teenage children of famous movie monster.  There are 4 novels, geared toward a tween/teen age group and online webisodes that continue their story as go through high school.   The novels and webisodes have a really great underlying message of acceptance.

This past Christmas she got another one and that really sparked her interested. Since Christmas, she has gotten 13 more.  The only thing is that these dolls are crazy hard to find!  My husband and I have been running to every store we can think of to find these girls.   Target, Toys R Us, and Walmart have all had exclusive dolls that we have been trying to get.   There is little to none on the shelf.   I swear some of the stores haven't restocked since Christmas.
We are still looking for one.  We have actually been looking for Abbey for 6 months!!   Abbey is the daughter of the Yeti.  Of course, I can find her on Ebay going for somewhere in the neighborhood of $60.   I just refuse to support scalpers on Ebay $60 for a $20 doll.
Anybody else having a headache finding Monster High dolls?

I am getting back to blogging

I have not blogged in a long time.   I had a very difficult pregnancy coupled with depression and anxiety attacks.   I am happy to say that I am doing a lot better and gave to birth to a healthy baby girl on Leap Day.   I read a statistic, that 1 in 5 million people have Leap Day as their birthday.  I get a lot of questions about how we will celebrate her birthday.  It will always be the last day of February.  I guess we will do something special every 4th year.

She is truly a blessing!  Along with the ups and downs of this pregnancy, my precious little "Peanut" was  born with a knot in her cord.   Thankfully, it was not tight.  We are very lucky that she is happy and healthy and already growing like a little weed.
